WHAT CAN BE CHANGED AFTER RETIREMENT

The Department of Defense Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) program was established by Congress in 1972 to give retiring Soldiers a way to provide a portion of their retired pay to their eligible survivors should they pass away.

Your decision to participate in SBP was made as part of the retirement process. However, sometimes life changes and your SBP selection may not apply to your current situation. How do life changes such as divorce, remarriage, or the addition of a new child that occur after retirement affect your SBP elections?
